Reid, Cool & Michalski, Inc. (RCMI), is the oldest traffic and transportation engineering consulting firm in the state of Michigan. Begun as the partnership of Reid & Cool in 1965, RCMI was incorporated in 1969 and has been providing a wide variety of consulting services in all phases of traffic and transportation engineering over the last 35 years. Our clientele include groups with various backgrounds including; architects, attorneys, commercial land developers, industry, institutions and municipalities.

Procedures and methodologies utilized in our analyses and studies are based on the most current publications and information provided for the transportation engineering profession. We utilize the latest computer technology, accommodating various software packages that provide capabilities for technical drawings, word processing, transportation planning, traffic engineering, and traffic assignment modeling simulation, as well as other applications.

RCMI collects traffic related data through the use of both manual and mechanical count techniques. Our equipment is capable of recording volume, speed, vehicle classification, vehicle headway and gaps. This data is then formatted and analyzed with available software.

May 20, 2008—Midwestern Consulting acquires traffic engineering firm Ann Arbor, MI—Midwestern Consulting, LLC, has acquired Reid, Cool & Michalski, Inc. (RCMI), a Livonia-based firm specializing in traffic studies. RCMI, the oldest traffic and transportation engineering consulting firm in the state, has provided services to public and private clients since 1969. Michael R. Cool, PE, RCMI’s president, joins Midwestern Consulting as a project manager in the transportation department. He will be responsible for performing a variety of traffic studies and preparing reports and analyses.

Cool received his degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan, and is a registered professional engineer. He is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Engineering Society of Detroit.

Midwestern Consulting is an award-winning consulting engineering firm founded in 1967.
