Stanley D. Cool, President

Mr. Cool was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1956 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and is a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit. Mr. Cool is registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.

During the nine years he served in the Michigan Department of State Highways, he was involved in all phases of traffic engineering operations. His work included:

  • Design of traffic signal systems and programming of their operations
  • Creation of geometric plans for safe and efficient movement of traffic on highways
  • Evaluation of numerous engineering reports, analysis of high accident intersections
  • Participation on a task force that wrote the 1963 edition of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Numerous other technical activities.

Since entering private practice, Mr. Cool has directed the development of traffic plans for many regional shopping centers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, and Iowa. The planning involved estimates of traffic generation and directional distribution of vehicular traffic, geometric design of internal and external road improvements, traffic control facilities and entrance/exit designs. Following is a partial list of such regional centers in Michigan; Southland, Taylor; Genesee Valley, Flint; Lansing Mall, Lansing; North Kent Mall, Grand Rapids; Maple Hill Mall, Kalamazoo; Westwood Mall, Jackson; and Lakeview Square, Battle Creek. He has also directed the traffic planning of large office and commercial centers including Renaissance Center, Detroit; Fairlane Town Center, Dearborn; Prudential Town Center, Southfield; and the American Center, Southfield.

Mr. Cool has developed a broad base of experience in planning and programming construction of comprehensive street and highway systems for governmental clients and he has devised traffic plans for redevelopment of central business districts, including the communities of Birmingham, Ferndale, Owosso, Lapeer, Sault Ste. Marie, and Royal Oak. He also advised and counseled communities along the proposed extension of I-696 on alignment, location or ramps and bridges, and other appurtenances.

Mr. Cool also conducted studies in connection with the Ford Motor Company engine plant in Dearborn (these studies recommended staggered work shifts, highway improvements, and entrance/exit designs) and for a new steel strip mall in Dearborn (which recommended improvements in geometrics and traffic control that allowed closing a major road, permitting construction of the facility). He directed design of improvements for the Detroit and Windsor Plazas of the Ambassador Bridge, including new connections to adjacent streets and nearby freeways, toll collection facilities, and custom inspection spaces.

Mr. Cool has supervised the preparation of countless traffic impact studies for developments in southeast Michigan and serves as the City of Midland's Consulting Traffic Engineer.
